The Cascais train station is the station of the city of the same in Portugal Lisbon District . It forms the western end point of the Linha de Cascais , which ensures the connection to Lisbon. The station is only served by suburban trains of the CP Urbanos de Lisboa .

history

The station was opened on September 30, 1889 at the same time as the Cascais – Pedrouços line, now part of the Linha de Cascais, by the Companhia Real dos Caminhos de Ferro Portugueses . Initially, it was planned to connect Cascais to the Portuguese railway network only through a branch line of the Linha de Sintra , instead it was decided in a contract in 1860 to build a main line from Cascais via Estoril to Lisbon. Nevertheless, the Linha de Cascais is still operated self-sufficiently, none of its stations offer transfer options to other railway lines. Plans for a continuous rail link from Porto to Cascais were dropped at the turn of the century (19th / 20th century) for cost reasons. A planned connection from Cascais to Sintra in the form of the Sintra tram also remained a vision. The Linha de Cascais and thus also the Cascais train station has been integrated into the CP Urbanos de Lisboa system since 1993.

investment

The station has five platform tracks and a service track with a length between 87 and 142 meters; the platform edges are 1.1 meters high. All six tracks are headers. The service track and a platform track end prematurely. The predominantly one-story station building has a nested nine-cornered floor plan with an indicated inner courtyard on the track side, which is why there is no actual cross platform delimiting the tracks. There is also no roof connection between the building and the platform roofs. There is a restaurant and a few retail stores in the building itself.

traffic

railroad

From Cascais only suburban trains of the CP Urbanos de Lisboa run. The Linha de Cascais family of lines offers connections to the Cais do Sodré train station in Lisbon every twelve minutes (sometimes compressed during rush hour) with Estoril service . The trains stop at all stations as far as Oeiras and then run faster with stops only in Algés and Alcântara-Mar to Cais do Sodré.

bus

There is a bus stop in front of the Cascais train station, where various bus companies offer connections to surrounding areas, such as Praia da Maçâs or Sintra .
