The Estoril railway station is one of four stations on territory of the Portuguese city of Estoril . It is located on the Linha de Cascais , which ensures the connection with Lisbon and is only served by suburban trains of the CP Urbanos de Lisboa .

history

The station was opened to traffic on September 30, 1889 by the Companhia Real dos Caminhos de Ferro Portugueses at the same time as the Cascais – Pedrouços railway line as part of today's Linha de Cascais . The decision was made in 1860 by contract. The Linha de Cascais is operated almost independently to this day, apart from a non-electrified connecting track to the Linha de Cintura in Alcântara , it is not connected to the rest of the Portuguese rail network, so that none of the railway stations on the route offer a connection to other railway lines. Plans for a connection from Porto to Cascais with service to the two Lisbon train stations Santa Apolónia and Cais do Sodré as well as a new train station at Terreiro do Paço were put on hold in 1912 for cost reasons. At times the Sud-Express Paris – Lisbon was extended to Estoril, which accelerated the tourist boom in the health resort. In 1926 the station was rebuilt and the station building that still exists today was built. The Linha de Cascais, and thus also the Estoril train station, has been integrated into the CP Urbanos de Lisboa system since 1993.

location

Estoril train station is located on the southern edge of the city center between the casino garden and the beach. It is accessed by private traffic through Avenida Marginal.

Plant and reception building

The station has two tracks and has two side platforms, which are 219 and 244 meters long. The platform edges are 1.1 meters high. There are no entry points in the station itself, but there is a lane change to the east. The reception building, built in 1926, is single-story and has a white facade and columns. It is the gateway to Estoril's status as a noble place. The building houses a café and service facilities from Comboios de Portugal . The station is designed to be handicapped accessible.

traffic

The station serves exclusively the suburban traffic of the CP Urbanos de Lisboa with the train route Cascais - Lisbon Cais do Sodré . The trains run every twelve minutes in both directions, some of them condensed during rush hour. From Cascais to Oeiras the trains stop at all stations and then run as reinforcement to the local Oeiras – Lisbon Cais do Sodré accelerated to Lisbon with stops now in Algés and Lisbon Alcântara-Mar .
