The Ditzingen station is located in Ditzingen at the distance km 7.7 of the Württemberg Black Forest Railway and is a station in the network of the Stuttgart S-Bahn .

history

After the Württemberg state parliament decided to build a railway line through Glemsgau in 1865 , the connection to Ditzingen was considered secure. Because the construction of the railway near Ditzingen was determined not only by the favorable geographical location, but also by influential aristocrats who lived in the area and managed their goods. The trade and distribution of their goods was able to expand to Stuttgart . This saved the municipal council from making petitions.

Branching off the northern line in Zuffenhausen , the first scheduled train reached Ditzingen station on September 23, 1868, which was 300 meters south of the town. Further construction of the line to Leonberg was delayed due to extensive earthworks. The two-storey entrance building made of sandstone has been preserved.

Very few locals used the new means of transport. Ditzingen remained dominated by agriculture. Every day servants of the Hemmingen manor delivered milk and sent it to Stuttgart for sale. This gave the railway line the name of the milk railway among the population .

On December 1, 1869, the Royal Württemberg State Railroad was able to complete the next section of the Black Forest Railway and the trains continued to Weil der Stadt .

The population increased now. But the settlement of factories only increased from the beginning of the 20th century. In 1910 the community had over 2,000 inhabitants for the first time, 113 of whom were employed outside of Germany.

The Ditzingen – Leonberg section has been open to two tracks since September 30, 1932. The Deutsche Reichsbahn completed the double-track expansion of the Korntal –Ditzingen section on May 11, 1938. On May 15, 1939, it electrified the Black Forest Railway between Zuffenhausen and Leonberg and at the same time integrated it into the Stuttgart suburban traffic .

To improve suburban traffic, plans for the Stuttgart S-Bahn were drawn up as early as the 1960s. The commissioning of the line S6 Weil der Stadt – Stuttgart took place on October 1st, 1978. The station forecourt was also given a new look. Since August 1987 it has been presented with plants in front of the historic building.

In the summer of 2015, one of the two track changes in the east head was expanded.

outlook

The S-Bahn station is to be made barrier-free by 2030.

Equipment and rail operations

There is a house platform on which track 1 was dismantled before 2010, and a central platform on which tracks 2 and 3 are located. The central platform is connected to the site by an underpass on both sides and to the north side by a barrier-free walkway with elevators . S-Bahn Stuttgart trains in the direction of Weil der Stadt (S6) and Böblingen (S60) stop on platform 2. S-Bahn trains to Stuttgart Schwabstraße stop on platform 3. Formerly existing tracks for goods handling have been dismantled or no longer in operation (as of 2010).

The platform edges are about 20 cm lower than the entry height of the vehicles, so entry is not barrier-free.

Ditzingen station is assigned to station category 4.
