The Grävenwiesbach train station in the Hessian community of Grävenwiesbach , on the edge of the Hochtaunus district, is located on the southern outskirts of the city center. The station used to be the junction for trains from the Weiltalbahn to Weilburg via Weilmünster , the Taunusbahn to Bad Homburg vor der Höhe and the Solmsbachtalbahn to Wetzlar .

history

The Grävenwiesbacher Bahnhof was opened on June 1, 1909 with the opening of the extension of the Usinger Bahn from Usingen to Weilmünster with a connection to the Weiltalbahn . Due to the route profile, a terminus station had to be set up.

The Prussian State Railways began planning a branch line through the Solmstal to Wetzlar. The Solmsbachtalbahn between Grävenwiesbach and Albshausen (on the Lahntalbahn ) could not be opened until November 1st, 1912 because several engineering structures had to be built beforehand. As a result, Grävenwiesbach became a separation station and the route to Weilmünster became part of the Weiltalbahn.

On September 27, 1969, passenger and freight traffic on the Weiltalbahn was discontinued due to insufficient passenger numbers. Until the 1980s there was still a 100 m long remnant of the former track to Weilburg , which served as a pull-out track .

Passenger traffic on the Solmsbachtalbahn ended on May 31, 1985 and goods traffic on May 28, 1988.

On November 15, 1999, the Grävenwiesbach – Brandoberndorf section of the Solmsbachtalbahn was reactivated for passenger traffic and the section was part of the Taunusbahn.

Station reception building and goods hall

The station reception building was built from 1909 to 1912 based on designs by Eduard Goepfert . Like the attached goods hall, it is a listed building . The station reception building is designed in the style of a country house with a variety of shapes and materials. The building has exposed framework and is covered with slate.

train

The Grävenwiesbach station is in the tariff area of the Rhein-Main-Verkehrsverbund (RMV). The traffic is operated by HLB Basis AG .

The Grävenwiesbacher Bahnhof has three platform tracks. Trains from the Taunusbahn (RMV line 15) to Brandoberndorf and Bad Homburg vor der Höhe via Usingen , Neu-Anspach , Wehrheim and Friedrichsdorf run on all three tracks .

The Taunusbahn runs every half hour on weekdays from Grävenwiesbach to Bad Homburg vor der Höhe; In addition, additional pairs of trains are used Monday to Friday mornings and afternoons during rush hour , which run from / to Frankfurt (Main) Hauptbahnhof and, for operational reasons, mainly run as RMV line 12 from / to Königstein . On Saturday, apart from a break in the morning, there is also a half-hourly service between Grävenwiesbach and Bad Homburg until around 4 p.m. afterwards and on Sundays, the Taunusbahn runs every hour on the entire route. The timetable is designed so that trains that end in Bad Homburg are always connected to the S5 S-Bahn line from / to Frankfurt.

bus

The regional bus routes 50, 59, 68, 81 and 289 depart from the Grävenwiesbach train station. The bus line 289 runs as a replacement for the Weiltalbahn to the Lahn valley. Bus route 50 connects Grävenwiesbach via Weilrod and Schmitten with Oberursel and Bad Homburg vor der Höhe through the upper Weiltal. A late trip on bus route 59, which goes from Grävenwiesbach to Friedrichsdorf, where there is a connection to the S5 to Frankfurt, complements the rail traffic.

Former planning

When the Grävenwiesbach – Brandoberndorf section of the Solmsbachtalbahn was reactivated for passenger traffic in 1999 , a reactivation of the Grävenwiesbach – Weilmünster section of the Weiltalbahn was also discussed. However, the plans were not specifically pursued and later discarded.
