history

In 1902 the Schwebda – Wartha railway line in the section from Schwebda to the Treffurt station was completed and opened. The then Prussian town of Großburschla received a train station on this route, which, due to the route, was located in the area of the neighboring town of Heldra. A train station restaurant was created with the train station, followed by commercial operations. Politically, the settlement belonged to Heldra from the start, but connections existed mainly with the nearby Großburschla, in which the local children went to school until 1952.

Due to the stipulations of the Yalta Conference and the division of Germany into zones of occupation , the fact that Großburschla of the Soviet , Heldra and the Großburschla train station belonged to the American occupation zone and Großburschla was increasingly cut off from his train station due to the emerging inner German border . After the railway line between Heldra and Treffurt was interrupted from July 3, 1945, rail traffic was only maintained to a limited extent until 1970 until Heldra; passenger traffic ceased on June 6, 1966. In 1970 Großburschla station became the new terminus for the remaining freight traffic until the line was finally closed in 1993 and dismantled in 1994.

In 1972 Großburschla station was incorporated into Wanfried together with Heldra . Today there are several residential buildings, a nursery and a timber trade in the Großburschla station settlement, which uses the former station area. About 60 people live in the district; the historic high is 120 people.

In 1979 scenes from the movie The Willi-Busch-Report were made in the area of the Großburschla train station.

The Werra Valley Cycle Path leads through the settlement, partly on the former railway line .
