The station Höfingen located at kilometer 11.0 of the Württemberg Black Forest Railway and is a station in the network of S-Bahn Stuttgart . In terms of the railway building and operating regulations, it is not a train station , but a stopping point .
history
On December 1, 1869, the Royal Württemberg State Railway opened the second section of the Black Forest Railway , between Ditzingen and Weil der Stadt . It can be assumed that Foreign Minister Karl von Varnbüler , the owner of Höfingen Castle at the time, influenced the route. But although the route in the Glemstal ran across the district of Höfingen , the village was initially ignored. After that, numerous residents joined together to form a citizens' association, which campaigned for the construction of a stop. In 1885 the community granted Karl von Varnbühler honorary citizenship.
On September 27, 1888, the construction of the halt is mentioned for the first time. In the presence of the cheering population, a train stopped for the first time in Höfingen on January 16, 1889. The one-story wooden reception building with waiting and service room, as well as an adjacent goods shed, no longer exists. The scheduled journey from Stuttgart to Höfingen took 35 minutes.
On September 30, 1932, the Deutsche Reichsbahn put a second line into operation between Ditzingen and Leonberg . On May 15, 1939, electrical operation between Zuffenhausen and Leonberg began with simultaneous integration into the Stuttgart suburban traffic .
In the 1970s, the Deutsche Bundesbahn converted the stop into a future S-Bahn station. In 1975 she tore down the station building. The former station keeper's house remained. S-Bahn lines S 6, Weil der Stadt - Schwabstraße, have stopped in Höfingen since October 1, 1978 . Since December 8, 2012, the stop has also been served by the S 60 Böblingen – Renningen – Schwabstrasse S-Bahn.
