The Kyiv-Passaschyrskyj station ( Ukrainian Київ-Пасажирський , Russian Киев-Пассажирский (Kijew-Passaschirski); translated: Kiev passenger station ) is the long-distance and main train station of the Ukrainian capital Kiev . With more than 170,000 travelers a day (2005), it is the country's largest through station .

The station was built between 1868 and 1870. The owner is the Piwdenno-Sachidna Salisnyzja and the operator of the station is the Ukrzalisnyzja .

The passenger station has three check-in halls: the " Hauptbahnhof ", built between 1927 and 1932 in the style of the Ukrainian Baroque with some elements of constructivism , the "Südbahnhof" from 2004 and the "Vorstadtbahnhof" from 1960 currently being used the Darnytsia station in the east of Kiev expanded to relieve the Kyiv-Passaschyrskyj station. The main train station building was designed by Oleksandr Werbyzkyj and the architect Pavlo Aloschyn. The chief construction engineer was the architect Iossif Karakis , who later became very productive in Kiev .

There has been an open-air railway museum at the station since 2011 .

Location and accessibility

The station is located at Bahnhofsplatz 1 ( Вокзальна площа 1 ) west of the historical center of the city and is accessible via metro line 1, Woksalna station ( Вокзальна ), trams 1, 15 and 18, Starovoksalna station at the north end of the station, and buses City and private providers can be reached by public transport.

Regional and national connections

Since autumn 2018, a short train has been running around three times an hour via Darnytsya station to Kiev's Boryspil airport .

International connections

Kiev Central Station is the transhipment point for numerous international train connections. Trains go daily to the Central European cities of Budapest , Vienna , Košice (Kaschau) , Przemyśl (without changing wheels due to the gauge), Krakow , Warsaw , Wroclaw , to Moldovan Chișinău , to the Belarusian cities of Minsk and Hrodna or to Russian Saint Petersburg (odd Days) and Moscow . Once a week trains go through Bukovina to Bucharest or east to Azerbaijani Baku via Volgograd and Astrakhan on the Caspian Sea. During the summer months there is another train to Bucharest once a week, which continues to the Bulgarian Black Sea city of Varna . From May to October there is a train every four days via Minsk and Vilnius to Riga .
