The Mataró train station is a railway station in the Catalan town of Mataró on the Costa Brava . It is managed by the Spanish infrastructure authority Adif and served exclusively by trains from the RENFE railway company. It was commissioned in 1848 as the end point of the first Spanish railway line.

history

With the opening of the Barcelona – Mataro line on October 28, 1848, the age of the railroad began on the Iberian Peninsula. For this purpose, the Companyia dels Camins de Ferro de Barcelona a Mataró was founded in 1847 at the instigation of the local industrialist Miquel Biada i Bunyol . With the launch of the Rodalies Barcelona , Mataró station became part of the R1 line of the network.

On February 19, 2012, a double traction of the RENFE series 447 as R1 Molins del Rei –Mataró with 50 passengers on board collided with the buffer stop on platform 4. 11 people were injured, one of them seriously.

traffic

Long-distance transport

In long-distance traffic, the Estrella Costa Brava night train ran once a week from Madrid Chamartín via Madrid Atocha , Tarragona , Barcelona-Sants , Mataró, Girona and Figueres to Cerbère / Port-bou until April 2015 .

Regional traffic

Rodalies Barcelona

The station is served by trains on the R1 line of Rodalies Barcelona , which operate on the Molins del Fei – Mataró and L'Hospitalet de Llobregat - Calella / Blanes (- Maçanet - Massanes ) routes. These trains run every ten minutes between Mataró and L'Hospitalet de Llobregat.

Rodalies Girona

Since March 24, 2014, the RG1 line has been running a regional train line between L'Hospitalet de Llobregat / Barcelona-Sants and Figueres, which offers direct connections between the Costa Brava and the Costa del Maresme, as well as the regional express trains Cerbère / Port-Bou-Granollers - To relieve Barcelona and on the other hand to make a change in Maçanet-Massanes superfluous. In addition, this train in Girona offers a connection to the AVE and TGV to France. The Rodalies Girona brand was launched to distinguish the route of the train from the Rodalies Barcelona . These trains run every two hours.

future

From 2020 to 2022 the construction of a Linea Orbital of Rodalies Barcelona is planned, which will lead from Mataró via Granollers , Sabadell and Martorell to Vilanova i la Geltrú and thus create a travel alternative that bypasses the city of Barcelona. This project provides for the construction of further train stations in the city of Mataró. Because the relocation of the current stretch near the beach is being examined at the same time, it seems possible to abandon the current train station.
