It is located on the Neckar Valley Railway from Heidelberg via Neckarelz to Bad Friedrichshall and the Elsenz Valley Railway via Sinsheim to Bad Friedrichshall. Since December 2003 it has been a stop on the S1 and S2 lines of the Rhein -Neckar S-Bahn , and since December 2008 also the S5 and S51 lines.

location

Eastern station head

Neckargemünd train station is located west of the old town of Neckargemünd, directly on Bundesstraße 37 and not far from the Neckar . The Elsenz Valley Railway makes two tight curves around the Neckarriedkopf , just like the Elsenz and Neckar , and leaves the station in a southbound direction. The Neckar Valley Railway crosses the Elsenz at the eastern end of the station and leads through the Reichenstein tunnel .

history

The Neckargemünder Bahnhof was opened together with the Elsenz Valley Railway Heidelberg – Meckesheim on October 23, 1862 by the Baden State Railway. On May 24, 1879, the line from Neckargemünd via Neckarsteinach – Eberbach – Neckarelz to Bad Friedrichshall-Jagstfeld was opened, making the station a separation station .

At the end of 1867, a weighbridge was built in the station .

In 1879 the station was relocated to the west. The old station building between today's Schützenhausbrücke and today's parking-and-travel parking lot on Bahnhofstrasse now contains a medical supply store .

On October 21, 1963, the two mechanical signal boxes were replaced by the Sp-Dr-S59 signal box "Nf" in the station building. The route to Heidelberg is secured with the S60 self- block design. In the direction of Hirschhorn, there is a track changing operation, in the other two directions there is a signaled wrong-way traffic .

For the 2003/2004 timetable change on December 14, 2003, Neckargemünd station was integrated into the RheinNeckar S-Bahn system. For this purpose, the station had been completely modernized. The main platform on track 1 and the central platform on tracks 2 and 3 were converted into 135 m long platforms according to the S-Bahn standard, at the ends of which ramps on the old, longer platform - platform A is a total of 272 m long to lead. Platform B, which is 318 m long with the old part, can be reached barrier-free via an elevator from the underpass . At that time, platform C was still a 271 m long intermediate platform between tracks 3 and 4 and only accessible via a passenger crossing east of the modernized part of platform B. Regional trains in the direction of Meckesheim only stopped at him if the return train was delayed.

The intermediate platform on track 4 was replaced by a side platform according to the S-Bahn standard by 2008. For this purpose, track 5 was shortened and the other tracks demolished. Furthermore, the W10 / W11 track connection was built to enable simultaneous entry and exit from and to tracks 3 and 4 in the direction of Heidelberg.

On the area of the tracks from track number 6, which were previously used for freight traffic, parking areas were created for vehicles, later also a discounter and a shoe shop. Track 5 was converted from a main track to a side track only for exit with a group exit signal.
