history

development

Farewell trip of the Odenwälder Lieschen in the train station Reinheim (Odenw)

The station was opened on May 15, 1871 with the second section of the Odenwaldbahn (Ober-Ramstadt-Reinheim) by the Hessian Ludwigsbahn . On October 10, 1887, the private Gersprenz Valley Railway, also known as Odenwälder Lieschen , was connected to the Odenwald Railway to Reichelsheim . The station was therefore designed as a shared station between the Hessian Ludwig Railway and the Reinheim-Reichelsheimer Railway (RRE). Most of the station was occupied by the Ludwigsbahn, only three tracks - a platform track with a bypass and a stump track - were used by the RRE. On October 1st, 1896 the Rodgaubahn was opened from Reinheim via Dieburg to Offenbach am Main . In 1897 the Hessian Ludwig Railway was nationalized into the Prussian-Hessian Railway Community. In 1904 exit signals were put into operation in the station .

On May 26, 1963, passenger traffic on the Gersprenz Valley Railway was stopped. Then the RRE tracks were removed from the station and the Gersprenz Valley Railway was integrated directly. Until the 2000s there was regular freight traffic on the Gersprenztalbahn to Groß-Bieberau , since then only a few freight trains have been using the route.

In 1965 the railway line to Groß -zimmer was closed for passenger traffic and in 1970 for freight traffic. In 1989 the line to Groß -zimmer was completely dismantled.

Reinheim station was extensively rebuilt when the Odenwaldbahn was modernized in 2007. The track systems were dismantled except for two tracks and the branch to Groß-Bieberau. The platforms were also modernized and increased to 55 cm, the previous central platform was replaced by a new outer platform. The old shape signals were replaced by light signals.

Signal box "Reinheim Rf"

The signal box "Reinheim Rf" was taken over and restored in 2008 by the association Museumsstellwerk Reinheim eV . A museum for signal box and signaling technology was set up there. The building was 100 years old in 2009.
