List of train stations in Italy |
The Roma Trastevere railway station is a railway station in the Roman district of Trastevere . The regional transport hub is operated by Rete Ferroviaria Italiana (RFI), an organizational unit of Ferrovie dello Stato . From 2001 to 2018, the Centostazioni company was responsible for marketing and leasing the retail space . Its neighboring stations are Ostiense and Quattro Venti and Villa Bonelli, respectively .
location
The station is located in Piazza Flavio Biondo on the southern edge of the Roman district of Trastevere, near the border with the districts of Marconi and Portuense at the junction of the Rome – Pisa and Rome – Fiumicino railway lines .
history
The first Trasteveres train station went into operation at Porta Portese in 1856 when the railway line between Rome and Civitavecchia started operating. This later became the Piazza Ippolito Nievo. The current station was opened to traffic on May 1, 1911, replacing the old station on Piazza Ippolito Nievo, which was used as a freight station until the 1950s. The station building was built according to plans by the architect Paolo Bo.
Until 1990, the station served as a transfer point between the lines to Pisa and Fiumicino, with the introduction of a suburban train-like agglomeration system in the metropolitan area of Rome , the station only became a stopping point for various lines, as the network was relocated to the three hub stations, Termini and Tiburtina and Tuscolana was aligned. In the recent past, various modifications and changes have been carried out at the station, primarily on the initiative of the Centostazioni.
traffic
The station is served exclusively by local trains, which generally run every hour, but in the residential area of Rome they run every half or even quarter of an hour.
