The Pisa – Rome line is a double-track , electrified main line in Italy . It is operated by the Ferrovie dello Stato (FS).
Geographical location
The railway line runs along the Tyrrhenian Sea . From Pisa it led along the Etruscan Riviera through the Maremma , past the Tolfa Mountains into the Tiber Valley . It crosses the regions of Tuscany and Latium . In addition to Rome and Pisa, it connects the provincial capitals Livorno , Grosseto and the important port city of Civitavecchia .

It used to be the main route from Turin and Genoa to Rome, today it is bypassed by long-distance trains via Florence . However, there are still InterCity and Eurostar Italia connections via Pisa and Grosseto.
Incidents
On August 27, 1921, a passenger train from Ladispoli collided with a shunting locomotive shortly before Rome. 29 people died in this accident .
