history
With the Idar-Oberstein - Türkismühle - St. Wendel – Neunkirchen (Saar) of the Nahe Valley Railway, which runs from Bingen am Rhein to Saarbrücken, opened on May 26, 1860, the St. Wendel station.
From August 3, 1915, a single-track branch line to Tholey led from St. Wendel station , the planned continuation of which to Lebach was not built. In 1984 passenger traffic on this route was stopped. First the section from Oberthal to Tholey was shut down, and in 1996 the rest of the route, which was still served by freight traffic until 1995 . In the meantime, the entire route from St. Wendel to Tholey has been upgraded to an asphalt cycle path (Wendelinus cycle path).
In 1937 the Reichsbahnamt was relocated from Türkismühle to St. Wendel.
The line from Türkismühle to St. Wendel has been electrified since 1969.
