Railway stations in Baden-Württemberg |
The underground Stuttgart University station , a railway stop , was opened on September 29, 1985. It serves to develop the University of Stuttgart and other scientific institutions on the Stuttgart-Vaihingen research campus in Stuttgart-Vaihingen . It is located on the Stuttgart connecting line , the main line of the Stuttgart S-Bahn . Neighboring stations of Stuttgart Schwabstraße station and the Stuttgart Österfeld station (since 1993) and Stuttgart-Vaihingen station (until 1993). Stuttgart University has been served by the S1, S2 and S3 lines since it opened, as well as the S11 stadium amplifier for VfB Stuttgart home games since 2016 . The station has a small DB travel center .
Location, course and structure
The platform area of the station is 18 m wide and 7.5 m high (from the upper edge of the rail) and is located in a left-hand arc 21.5 m below the site, out of town. The track center distance is 4.70 m. Three stairs or escalators must therefore be used one after the other from the platforms to the surface of the earth. Alternatively, elevators can be used. Above the station is a lecture hall building of the university, which was only built after the station opened. In addition, Universitätsstraße runs across the train station. It creates a connection to the federal highway 14 and the Büsnau district . The bus stop on Universitätsstraße is served by some Stuttgart and some regional bus routes.
In contrast to the other tunnel stations of the Stuttgart S-Bahn, the Universität station has external platforms . The design of the station walls, they are painted brown, refers to the university. There is a special motif for each of the (then 13) faculties.
The longitudinal gradient in the station area is mostly 2.5 per thousand in the direction of Österfeld. At the southern end of the station there is an incline change from 2.5 to 38 per thousand. Due to the necessary rounding, the gradient increases in the southern section of the platform.
The Stuttgart Model Railway Club operates a model railway system on the mezzanine floor of the station, which comprises one kilometer of track and 80 vehicles.
history
The station was built in a 230 m long and 25 m deep excavation pit. The two outer platforms, each 210 m long and 5 m wide, are 21.5 m below ground level, in an arc of 750 m radius.
The works were awarded on July 22, 1980. Construction began in August 1980 and the shell work was completed in December 1984.
The shell construction costs amounted to 50 million DM.
