The Hrušovany nad Jevišovkou – Znojmo railway line is a single-track branch line ("regionální dráha") and former main line ("celostátní dráha") in the Czech Republic , which was originally built and operated by the privately owned Austro-Hungarian State Railway Company (StEG). It runs from Hrušovany nad Jevišovkou ( Grusbach ) to Znojmo ( Znaim ).

history

The concession for the route from Grusbach to Znojmo was granted to the StEG in connection with the approval of the route from Vienna via Laa to Brno. Part of the concession was the obligation to continue the route “ at the request of the state administration after the construction of a railway from Vienna to Pilsen, its branch line from Znojmo to the connection to this latter railway in the Horn area. “The route opened on September 15, 1870.

After the nationalization of the StEG on January 1, 1908, the line was transferred to the kk Staatsbahnen (kkStB). After the First World War, the newly founded Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD) took their place . In the 1921 timetable, a total of seven 1st to 3rd class passenger trains were recorded, most of which were connected to and from Břeclava (Lundenburg). They needed 48–50 minutes for the 25-kilometer route.

At the end of the 1920s, the ČSD set up direct train routes between the Moravian-Silesian capital Brno and Znojmo. The winter timetable of 1937/38 recorded a total of nine pairs of trains, three of which went to and from Brno. An accelerated passenger train Brno – Grusbach – Znojmo served excursion traffic on Sundays.

After the Sudetenland was annexed to Germany in autumn 1938, the line came to the Deutsche Reichsbahn , Reichsbahndirektion Wien . In the imperial course book the connection was now included as course book route 462v Lundenburg – Grusbach-Schöngrafenau – Znaim . After the end of the Second World War , the route was completely returned to the ČSD. From now on only the Czech station names were valid.

On January 1, 1993, the line was transferred to the newly founded České dráhy (ČD) as a result of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia in the Czech Republic and Slovakia . Until the mid-1990s, the continuous connections to and from Brno gradually lost their importance. In the 1995/96 annual timetable, there were only three express train connections to and from Brno on Sundays. All other trains served the Břeclav – Znojmo route.

In the 2012 timetable, the route is served daily every two hours by passenger trains that are connected to and from Břeclav. On weekdays, additional trains condense the offer, sometimes at hourly intervals.
