The railway line Rakovník – Mladotice is a regional railway connection in the Czech Republic , which was originally built and operated as a nationally guaranteed local railway Rakonitz – Mlatz (Czech: Místní dráha Rakovník – Mladotice ). It runs from Rakovník via Čistá u Rakovníka to Kralovice . The rest of the route to Mladotice was closed on January 1, 1997 due to damage to the track.

According to a decree of the Czech government, the line has been classified as a regional railway ("regionální dráha") since December 20, 1995.

history

On January 23, 1897 “ the notary Vinzenz Feierseil in Karolinenthal, in association with the factory owner Josef Čermák, mayor in Rakonitz, the master builder Franz Saller in Prague and the wholesaler Victor Arnstein in Čistá was granted the concession to build and operate a standard-gauge local railway Locomotive train from the Rakonitz station of the Rakonitz – Protivin state railway via Petrowitz, Čistá, Kozlan and Kralowitz to Mlatz for connection to the Pilsen – Dux state railway ” . Part of the concession was the obligation to start construction of the line immediately and to finish it “ within a year and a half ”.

The company's share capital totaled 1,185,400 crowns . 4,947 ordinary shares at 200 kroner each and 980 priority shares at 200 kroner each were issued . The company was based in Prague .

The Kingdom of Bohemia granted a guarantee for 70 percent of the share capital of 3,860,350 kroner. In addition, the Kingdom of Bohemia guaranteed an interest rate of 4.76% on the share capital. In addition, the Kingdom of Bohemia itself acquired common shares to the value of 375,400 kroner, further shares to the value of 614,000 kroner went to local buyers.

The line was opened on July 9, 1899. The operation was carried out by the kk Staatsbahnen (kkStB) on behalf of the owners.

In 1912 the timetable of the local railway indicated three mixed pairs of 2nd and 3rd class trains. They needed between two and a half and three hours for the 38-kilometer route. In Mlatz there was a connection to the trains to and from Pilsen.

After the collapse of Austria-Hungary in October 1918, management was transferred to the newly founded Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD). On January 1, 1925, the local railway Rakonitz – Mlatz was nationalized by law and the line was integrated into the ČSD network.

The commissioning of modern motor trains by ČSD in the early 1930s enabled a significant reduction in travel times as well as a compression of the timetable. The winter timetable of 1937/38 recorded six passenger trains from Rakovník to Mladotice on weekdays, four of which were motorized. The motor trains now needed an hour and 16 minutes for the route.

During the Second World War , the route lay entirely in the Protectorate of Bohemia and Moravia . The operators were now the Protectorate Railways Bohemia and Moravia (ČMD-BMB). Due to the war, the motor trains were shut down due to a lack of fuel. On May 9, 1945, the entire line came back to the ČSD.

On January 1, 1993, the line was transferred to the newly founded České dráhy (ČD) in the course of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia . Since 2003 it has been part of the network of the state infrastructure operator Správa železniční dopravní cesty (SŽDC).

On January 1, 1997, the Čistá – Mladotice section was closed due to defects in the superstructure. The tourist traffic went over to a rail replacement traffic. Only the 9.5 km long section Čistá – Kralovice u Rakovníka was repaired again in 2001 for 38 million Kč, so that passenger trains could run there again from December 2001.

With the timetable change on December 15, 2013, travel between Čistá and Kralovice u Rakovníka was canceled by the responsible public transport authority in Plzeňský kraj .

The Kralovice u Rakovníka - Mladotice route has been on sale since 2012. The buyer had to reckon with a purchase price of more than CZK 10 million. In 2004 SŽDC put the cost of a simple repair of the line at 80 million crowns. For the complete renovation and upgrading of the section, on the other hand, 140 million CZK are calculated. The rebuilding of the bridge over the Mladotický potok , which would then be necessary, costs 20 million CZK.

After no buyer could be found, SŽDC offered the route to the neighboring communities for free takeover. Only the municipality of Mladotice showed interest, but no contract was signed. In February 2019, SŽDC initiated the procedure for the closure of the eleven-kilometer section.

Locomotives

The operating kkStB procured three locomotives of the kkStB series 97 for the account of the local railway Rakonitz – Mlatz . The locomotives had the road numbers 97.130-132. The ČSD gave them the new numbers 310.047-49 in 1924. The 310.048 was sold to an industrial company in Králův Dvůr in 1947 , the other two were retired in 1961 and 1965 respectively.
