The railway line Rakovník – Bečov nad Teplou is a railway connection in the Czech Republic that was originally built and operated as part of the state-guaranteed local railway Rakonitz – Bečov nad Teplou . The route of Rakovník ( Rakonitz ) via Jesenice u Rakovníka ( Jechnitz ) and Žlutice ( Luditz ) to Bečov nad Teplou ( Petschau ).

According to a decree of the Czech government, the line has been classified as a regional railway ("regionální dráha") since December 20, 1995.

history

The concession to build and operate a standard-gauge local railway was granted by the Austrian state on May 31, 1895. The line was opened on June 27, 1897 (Rakonitz – Luditz) and November 20, 1898 (Luditz – Petschau). The operation was carried out by the kk Staatsbahnen (kkStB) on behalf of the owners.

Chyše Railway Station (2007)

After the First World War, management was transferred to the newly founded Czechoslovak State Railways (ČSD) in October 1918 . Their first timetable from 1919 recorded only one pair of trains on the entire route. Three other sections traveled. On January 1, 1925, the local railway company was nationalized and incorporated into the ČSD.

On October 7, 1928, the use of modern motorized railcars began, which led to a significant reduction in travel times and a compression of the timetable. As of May 15, 1934, four pairs of trains were already running with multiple units, with most of the trains going through to and from Karlsbad.

After the Sudetenland became part of Germany on October 1, 1938, the line between Pschoblik and Beschau came under the administration of the Deutsche Reichsbahn , Reichsbahndirektion Dresden . The short section from Rakonitz to Pschoblik remained under Czech administration; from March 1939 it belonged to the network of the Protectorate Railways of Bohemia and Moravia (ČMD-BMB). The Pschoblik (Pšovlky) station was designated as the border station with passport and customs control. In the imperial course book the connection was included as a course book route 167 m Beschau – Pladen – Pschoblik – Rakonitz . The use of railcars was reduced more and more during the war on both sides of the newly drawn border and finally stopped completely in 1942. In 1944 there was only one single pair of continuous passenger trains across the protectorate border. For three other connections, a change had to be made between the trains of both railway administrations in the border station Pschoblik.

Žlutice railway station (2008)

After the end of the Second World War on May 8, 1945, the entire line came back to the ČSD.

In the 1988/89 timetable, a total of six pairs of passenger trains ran, which took around three hours in both directions for the entire route from Rakovník to Bečov nad Teplou. Another six pairs of trains served sections of the route.

On January 1, 1993, in the course of the dissolution of Czechoslovakia, the line was transferred to the newly founded Czech state railway organization České dráhy (ČD).

In the 2011 timetable, the passenger trains run approximately every two hours . Additional trains run between Rakovník and Blatno u Jesenice, especially on weekdays, so there is an hourly train service there.
