The Riga – Jelgava railway is a railway line in Latvia . It has the Russian track width of 1520 mm, is around 43 km long and is electrified throughout. The line is double-tracked throughout and is also one of the most important railway lines in Latvia. The route is owned and operated by Latvijas dzelzceļš .

history

The route was opened in 1868 and nationalized in 1894.

Operation today

There are 23 train pairs per day on the entire route (as of December 2013). Passenger trains are allowed to run continuously at 100 km / h and freight trains at 80 km / h.
