Black Forest Railway to Offenburg

The railway Rottweil Villingen is a single-track, non- electrified , railroad line on the eastern edge of the Black Forest . It partially runs in the upper Neckar Valley and connects Rottweil on the Gäubahn with Villingen-Schwenningen on the Black Forest Railway . The course book route 742 Rottweil - Bräunlingen / - Trossingen Stadt ("Alemannenbahn") runs over it.

history

The Rottweil train station

In 1865, the then states of Baden and Württemberg had agreed to connect their railroad networks in the south (see the history of the railways in Württemberg ).

After the railway in the upper Neckar valley had reached Rottweil in 1868 and the Black Forest Railway in Villingen in 1869, the 27 km long Rottweil – Villingen railway was opened on August 26, 1869. Johannes Bürk , watch manufacturer and member of the state parliament from Schwenningen had a decisive influence on the route . Bürk successfully campaigned for the railway line to be run via Schwenningen. The original plan provided for a route further north, via Niedereschach .

Since the route only ran a short distance near Villingen in Baden, it was built and operated solely by the Württemberg State Railways on the basis of a state treaty dated February 18, 1865 .

An important stopover is Trossingen train station . Since December 14, 1898, the Trossingen electric railway, which belongs to the city of Trossingen, has been branching off there to the city railway station 4.5 km away on the heights of the Baar .

planning

The line was included in the electrification concept for the rail network in Baden-Württemberg in 2018. The VCD Südbaden assumes that electrification will be implemented in the mid-2020s.

traffic

In Rottweil, the trains have inexpensive connections to the InterCity from / to Stuttgart Hauptbahnhof (which is open to local traffic) and inexpensive connections to the S-Bahn from / to Freiburg Hauptbahnhof in Villingen .

Prior to the electrification of the Höllentalbahn the timetable change 2019/20 every two hours drove on a regional express the Deutsche Bahn the relation Neustadt (Black Forest) - Rottweil , the benefit of said Breisgau-train according to Freiburg was adjusted. The ring train also runs the branch line to Trossingen city station and provides continuous connections between (Bräunlingen-) Villingen or Rottweil and Trossingen city during rush hour.
