The station Immendingen is a junction station where the Plochingen forth coming Upper Neckarbahn in the Black Forest Railway from Offenburg to Konstanz opens. Immendingen is also the starting point for trains on the Wutachtalbahn, which branches off at the neighboring Hintschingen station, via Blumberg to Waldshut ; the section to Blumberg has been regularly used in passenger traffic as part of the Ringzug concept since 2004 . Until the construction of the connecting curve Tuttlingen – Hattingen in 1934, Immendingen was also the terminus for trains from Stuttgart ( Gäubahn ).

history

On June 15, 1868, the Baden State Railways opened the section of the Black Forest Railway between Engen and Donaueschingen . Immendingen thus got its railroad access. Three years later, the Württemberg State Railways inaugurated the last section of their Upper Neckar Railway with the 9.7 km long Tuttlingen - Immendingen route on July 26, 1870 , providing a continuous connection from Immendingen via Tübingen to Stuttgart . Immendingen became an operating change station between Baden and Württemberg. It was not until 1873 that Baden completed the last sections of the Black Forest Railway. He received additional significance by the ten kilometers away in Tuttlingen branching, went into operation on 26 November 1890 railway Tuttlingen-Inzigkofen . As the penultimate stretch of the Immendingen railway junction, the Wutach Valley Railway , built for strategic reasons and branching off at the neighboring Hintschingen station, was put into operation on May 20, 1890 , with trains usually running to and from Immendingen. Since then, Immendingen station has been one of the most important railway junctions between Offenburg and Constance. Trains between Stuttgart and Zurich had to turn their heads here and change the direction of travel, at the same time they went from the Württemberg to the Baden railways. The station was therefore given a locomotive station for the Württemberg State Railways, and treatment systems were also built for Baden locomotives.

Initially, the function of the station did not change after operations were transferred from the two regional railways to the newly founded Deutsche Reichsbahn in 1920. Only the completion of the direct connection between Tuttlingen and Hattingen (Baden) on May 15, 1934 significantly reduced the importance of the Immendingen railway junction. Since then, the D trains between Stuttgart and Zurich have bypassed Immendingen on the new line. The Immendingen locomotive depot, which was part of the Singen depot, also lost its importance, even if it was temporarily upgraded to a depot during the Second World War .

For decades, the railway junction formed the economic backbone of the municipality of Immendingen and provided significant impetus for the economic upturn in the municipality. The workplaces were divided between the station, the railway maintenance office and external offices. The highest level was the share of railway workers and their family members, including retirees and retirees, at almost 50% of the total resident population.

Ringzug - railway depot of the HzL in Immendingen

In 2003 the track section between Immendingen and Fridingen was integrated into the ring train concept. Since 2004 there has been a workshop of the Hohenzollerische Landesbahn AG (HzL) in Immendingen , where the ring trains are maintained and training courses for new train drivers take place. In 2014 the railway had the Immendingen station building auctioned. It is now privately owned.

Investments

Originally there was a Baden machine house with a lounge, turntable , coal crane and warehouse at the train station , as well as a Württemberg administration and machine house, also with a manually operated turntable. With the electrically operated turntable installed in 1926 at the boundaries of the local district , the previous facilities could be taken out of service. The construction of a new locomotive hall instead of the building demolished in 1937/38 was delayed until 1941/42. The largest hall with seven entrances at the west end of the station was built together with an overnight building for the driving staff on the locality of rooms with the necessary facilities. From 1946 to 1953 the locomotive hall served as a company car factory.

For the operation of the ring train, its operator, the Hohenzollerische Landesbahn , has built a depot in Immendingen with numerous new jobs, in which the Seehäsle trains on the Radolfzell - Stockach route are now also serviced.
