Railway line Paris – Marseille to Paris Gare de Lyon

The Saint-Julien – Saint-Florentin-Vergigny railway is a single-track , non-electrified railway line in France . It went into operation in 1891 and was designed to have two tracks together with the Troyes – Brienne-le-Château railway line and could be used continuously by bypassing Troyes and Saint-Julien . Of the total length of 52 km, 43 are in the Aube department .

Routing

West portal, 2011

The route runs roughly in a north-east-south-west direction parallel to the N 77 , always south-east at a distance of one to seven kilometers. It connects the two main routes Paris – Mulhouse and Paris – Lyon – Marseille . Stops en route were insignificant for both freight and passenger traffic. Accordingly, the stops on the way except for Saint-Julien Ostbahnhof and Auxon were equipped without switches. With the dismantling of the second track in World War II by the German occupiers, however, this was left to cross the trains at all stations and connections were made with switches.

No special topographical requirements were made during the construction of the line, but received the only 174-meter-long railway tunnel in the Aube department in the municipality of Jeugny . This tunnel is only covered by a thin top layer; it was built in the tradition of blasting technology.

In Roncenay , 11 kilometers south-southwest of Troyes, a grain silo is in operation, to which rail traffic is necessary and which has prevented the line from being de- dedicated so far. The main train station was in Auxon. There were several tracks, a freight hall and a ramp for loading military vehicles.

history

Already in 1842 was a connection between Saint-Florentin and Troyes with its southern His discussed -Port. A commission of inquiry dedicated a separate section to this endeavor in the dossier Chemin de fer de Paris à Lyon, et de Paris à Strasbourg: Rapport de la Commission d'enquête du département de l'Aube . But only with the Frecyinet Plan , the law of July 17, 1879 for the construction of 181 railway lines ( Loi qui classe 181 lignes de Chemins de fer dans le réseau des Chemins de fer d'interêt général ), this line is called, approved and built. It was a section on the Auxerre - Vitry-le-François connection , which was made up of six kilometers of the Laroche-Migennes-Cosne railway and also from the Saint-Florentin-Vergigny-Monéteau-Gurgy , Troyes-Brienne-le-Château , Six and a half kilometers of the Jessains – Sorcy line and the Vallentigny – Vitry-le-François line existed. The license to route the route was given to the Chemin de fer de l'Est . On February 2, 1881, it was declared non-profit, i.e. also required for passenger traffic.

The extension of the line to Monéteau -Gurgy to complete the plans of 1879 could only be put into service and thus completed in 1926, 45 years later. This route is one of the strategic railways and its layout is completely free of intersections with overpass structures . With the removal of the second track, this concept became obsolete.

No passenger trains have been running since 1996. Since 2005, a large part of the route has been closed to other traffic.
