Oswald Brozio (born April 1, 1934 in Königsberg (Prussia) ) is a former German basketball player , coach and functionary .

Career

Brozio was still active as a football goalkeeper in school before he discovered basketball as a student, joined the BBC Linz 1956 eV and competed internationally with the best university teams. Brozio rose in 1965 with SSV Ulm in 1846 in the southern German league before he moved to Heidenheim in 1969 . In 1972 he was a member of the founding college of the Max-Planck-Gymnasium (MPG) and at the same time had a teaching load at the Urspring School in Schelklingen . Three years earlier, the temporary playground of the Progymnasium was inaugurated with a basketball game between pupils and teachers.

The promotion to the 1st women's basketball league in 1985 with Heidenheimer SB is based on Brozio's ongoing development work in close cooperation with the school management of the MPG. Even before the first national titles, the HSB's basketball department was ranked third in southern Germany behind two Munich clubs, according to a survey by the state youth welfare office in 1974. A year later, seven HSB youth teams played for the title in Baden-Württemberg. In 1977 the C girls just missed out on the huge success of winning a German club championship against the then overpowering DJK Agon 08 Düsseldorf in their own hall, but in the same year they were able to win an exciting final against Linz, where Brozio started his basketball career began, and 1979 won the German championship in the school sport competition youth trained for the Olympics . A younger age group also succeeded in this in the national finals in 1982. In 1983, third place was achieved there, while the club team was able to reach the German runner-up.

The decades of activity also made Brozio the school sports officer of the Baden-Württemberg basketball association. In 1985 he was named "Trainer of the Year" by the Association of German Basketball Trainers (VDBT). Also in 1985 his club was awarded the first trophy of the Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sport Baden-Württemberg for the “best youth work in the state”. On the occasion of the department-internal anniversary event on April 27, 2019 for Brozio's 50th anniversary in Heidenheim, Klaus Dieter Marx from the Württemberg State Sports Association and Heinz Mörbe from the German Basketball Association each awarded him a gold pin of honor.

The Württemberg championship in the U10 age group ("Oswald Brozio Cup") is named after Oswald Brozio.
