Railway Soissons – Givet to Reims

The Trilport – Bazoches railway is a standard-gauge , double-track , non-electrified railway line in northern France. It creates a connection between the Paris – Strasbourg line in the south-west with the Soissons – Givet line, which runs parallel to the north .

On the way to Reims or Charleville -Mézières, the travel time was significantly shorter than on the route via Soissons , which had existed since 1862, i.e. had already been in operation 15 years earlier. With the electrification and further improvements such as the signaling technology of the 30 km short branch line Épernay – Reims , which took place in the years 1961/62, this route lost its importance again.

history

The extensive railway construction projects as part of the Freycinet plan between the lost Franco-German and First World War also included the approval of this railway line, which is regarded as militarily relevant. It is listed under number 9 in this list of 161 railway lines.

The route was approved in January 1883, licensed to the Chemin de fer de l'Est on June 11, and construction was approved on November 20 of the same year. The completion and opening took place in three stages: Trilport-La-Ferté-Milon on June 1, 1894, from La Ferté-Milon-Oulchy-Breny on November 21, 1885 (as an extension to the railway line Château-Thierry-Oulchy-Breny ) and from Oulchy-Breny to Bazoches on June 1, 1894. The route is set from zero at Paris-Nord station.

business

The timetable has been reduced to one or two trips a day. In addition, there are few public transport buses . On Sundays there is only one bus connection in each direction. Elsewhere there is talk of 2700 passengers a day, who are not worth electrifying the route, as some local politicians are calling for.
