The Bait ul-Mo'min ( Urdu بیت المؤمن DMG Bait al-Mu'min , German for 'House of the Guarantor of Security' ) is a mosque that was opened in 2003 by the Ahmadiyya Muslim Jamaat in Münster-Hiltrup . It is therefore the first mosque to be built in Münster and part of the 100 mosques plan .

building

Property

The property was acquired for 127,000  DM and is located in the Hiltrups industrial area on a branch of Hansestrasse. It is enclosed on three sides by other built-up properties, so that the mosque is only visible from Hansestrasse. The rectangular property is 1015 m² and lay fallow before construction began. The built-up part covers 202 m².

Mosque construction

The head of the community at the time, Mirza Tahir Ahmad , began construction of the mosque in 2001 with the laying of the foundation stone . It is the first mosque in a community in Germany whose foundation stone was laid by a head of the community.

The blueprint for the mosque was developed by the 100 mosque department at headquarters in collaboration with the architect Willigerd Hunz from Überlingen. Martin Vosseler from Tuningen was responsible for the statics.

The mosque includes a prayer room for men (73.12 m²), a prayer room for women (54.63 m²), a small room for the library, a common room, three offices, two kitchens and a three-room apartment (94 m² ). The two prayer rooms together offer space for 213 prayers. A cellar was dispensed with because of the high costs. The Mo'min Mosque has a dome and two 10 meter high minarets , but they are not used for calling to prayer ( Adhan ). There are 17 parking spaces available on the property.

If there are two separate rooms for men and women next to each other in a mosque, then according to Islamic jurisprudence the women's room should be to the left of the men's room. The architect made a mistake when building Bait ul-Mo'min, so the women's room is on the right.

financing

The mosque is completely financed by AMJ Deutschland e. V. financed. By the time the building application was submitted, the local community in Münster had already collected DM 100,000 in donations, after which the construction project was pre-financed by the community headquarters in Frankfurt. In order to save costs, the construction work was carried out to a large extent by the members of the community.

On this occasion, the address given by the chief Mirza Masrur Ahmad from London was broadcast live. An official anniversary celebration took place in April 2008, in which Hans Varnhagen (FDP) took part as representative of the Lord Mayor and representatives of the political parties and the city council.

reception

When the plans for the mosque became known, residents who feared noise pollution collected signatures against the construction. After the construction, the work of the community is recognized by the city. The mosque was suggested as a distribution site for the work of the Münster board , even if the mosque was ultimately not used. In addition, the city administration supports the clean-up activities after New Year's Eve. The mosque is often visited by school classes from Münster. Members of political parties (for example the JuLis, women's group of the SPD) and church associations were also received (KSHG).
