Winfried Maria Nachtwei (born April 15, 1946 in Wulfen ) is a German politician ( Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen ) and an expert on peace and security policy.

Life and work

After graduating from the Max-Planck-Gymnasium in Düsseldorf , Nachtwei did his military service from 1965 to 1967 , most recently in the rank of lieutenant in the reserve, and then completed a teaching degree in history and social sciences in Munich and Münster , which he passed with the state examination for the advanced level Finished teaching post. He then worked from 1977 to 1994 as a teacher at the Clemens-Brentano-Gymnasium in Dülmen .

Political party

Nachtwei was a member of the Maoist Communist Federation of West Germany in the 1970s , after which he had been active in the peace movement since 1980 and was one of the founding members of the Greens in Münster, where he was also a member of the district executive on several occasions.

Nachtwei was a member of the German Bundestag from 1994 to 2009 . From October 2002 to October 2005 he was deputy chairman of the Bundestag parliamentary group Bündnis 90 / Die Grünen and at the same time coordinator of the parliamentary group on international politics and human rights . From October 2005 until he left the Bundestag he was deputy coordinator of this working group and also parliamentary group spokesman for security and disarmament policy.

Winfried Nachtwei always entered the German Bundestag via the state list of North Rhine-Westphalia . In 2009 he did not run again for the Bundestag.
