Balaton is a Hungarian municipality in the Bélapátfalva district in Heves county .
geography
Balaton extends over an area of 13.2 km². The parish is on the northern border of Heves County. The source of the Eger brook is in the municipality . Neighboring municipalities are Bükkszentmárton and Borsodnádasd .
history
In 1552 the place was devastated by the Turks. The reconstruction began quite soon. From 1596 Balaton belonged to the Turkish occupied part of Hungary. The taxes went to the Turkish administration in Ofen , later in Hatvan .
Until 1945 the place belonged to the Ózd district in Borsod county .
Attractions
- The late baroque Roman Catholic church Szent Márton from 1775, it was restored in 1970.
- The church bell from 1272 with the inscription Rex gloriae veni cum pace and weighing 300 kg.
traffic
Road No. 2507 runs through Balaton. The nearest train station is in Bélapátfalva on the Eger - Putnok railway line .
