Balbina Bäbler Nesselrath (born May 7, 1967 , resident in Glarus and Matt ) is a Swiss classical archaeologist .

Bäbler studied classical archeology, Greek and Latin in her hometown of Bern and at the University of Munich from 1986 to 1997 . In 1997 she was in Bern with a thesis on the subject of hard-working Thracians and defensive Scythians . PhD from non-Greeks in classical Athens and their archaeological legacy . In 1998 she became an assistant at the Institute for Ancient History at the University of Bern, where she worked on the inventory of historical traffic routes in Switzerland and recorded archaeological finds from the Swiss Plateau that were relevant to settlement until 2000. In 2002/03 she was a lecturer at the Department of Ancient History at the University of Göttingen , in 2005 at the Department of Classical Philology at the University of Hamburg , and from 2010 to 2011 at the Department of Ancient History at the University of Hanover . She also teaches at the University of Göttingen. From 2008 to 2011 Bäbler was a research assistant in the SAPERE project at the Göttingen Academy of Sciences . From 2010 to 2015 she was a research assistant at the academy project Winckelmann edition of the Academy of Sciences and Literature in Mainz . In the years 2011–2012 she was also a research assistant at the Ancient History Institute of the University of Hanover. From 2015 to 2019 she worked as a research assistant at the Collaborative Research Center 1136 “Education and Religion” at the University of Göttingen in the sub-project A 02: Education and Religion in Christian Libraries in Late Antiquity .

The expert in archaeological chronology and ancient burial culture is an “Honorary Fellow” at the University of Exeter and currently lecturer at the Department of Ancient History at the Georg-August University in Göttingen. Bäbler has been working as a reviewer for the British Academy since 2003. She is married to the classical philologist Heinz-Günther Nesselrath , with whom she researched several times. Bäbler wrote several articles for the New Pauly .
