Banu Güven

Banu Güven (born May 15, 1969 in Istanbul , Turkey ) is a Turkish journalist and television presenter .

Banu Güven attended İstanbul Lisesi until 1987 and then studied International Relations at Istanbul University . For the journalism they are already interested in while studying. She worked for a German-Turkish magazine published in Turkey before corresponding for a Swiss newspaper from Turkey.

She first worked for Milliyet in Turkey before moving to the NTV news channel in 1997 , where she initially worked as a reporter . From 2008 to 2010, Banu Güven wrote columns for the weekend supplement of the left-liberal newspaper Radikal . In January 2014 she started at the pro-Kurdish TV channel İMC TV , where she was considered the anchorwoman and most famous face of the channel. On September 29, 2016, İMC TV and around 20 other media outlets were closed by the state broadcasting supervisory authority RTÜK . The entire technical equipment of the station was confiscated and taken to a depot of the state broadcaster TRT . Because of the alleged "endangerment of national security" and the alleged proximity to a terrorist organization, proceedings have been opened against the broadcaster. 130 people who had worked for the station by then became unemployed - among them Banu Güven. Banu Güven declared: "If this continues, Europe will soon no longer have any democratic contacts in Turkey."

Since the end of 2016 Güven has been regularly publishing "video columns" at Cosmos and also writes for the Turkish-language service of Deutsche Welle .

In April 2017, Banu Güven was awarded the special prize of the Henri Nannen Prize for her journalistic engagement in social media .

In addition to her native Turkish, she also speaks German , French and English . She is married to the architect Aykut Dokur.
