Baptist Church (Berlin-Steglitz)
The Baptist Church (Berlin-Steglitz) , built between 1952 and 1953, is located at Rothenburgstrasse 12A in the Berlin district of Steglitz in what is now the Steglitz-Zehlendorf district . The congregation is a member of the Federation of Evangelical Free Churches and serves the Baptists as a place of worship and assembly.
history
In 1885 a new base for Baptist missionary work was set up in Steglitz, where a choir was founded in 1889 . The community of Steglitz became independent on December 27, 1899 and in 1906 a chapel was built in Klingsorstrasse , which was destroyed in World War II. After the war, a piece of land was leased in Rothenburgstrasse and a barrack was built as an emergency church . Between 1952 and 1953, today's church was built and inaugurated in 1956.
Building description
The east-facing church , a plastered masonry structure , is covered with a hipped roof made of zinc sheet . The interior, spanned by a flat coffered barrel vault , is illuminated by daylight from tall windows on the long sides. The nave has no recessed choir , but only a parabolic wall niche . There are community rooms under the church hall. The stair tower rises above the anteroom behind the portal on a rectangular floor plan, which leads to the gallery. It has a flat roof with a simple cross.
Furnishing
In the church hall there is the gallery above the vestibule , on which the organ with 2 manuals , a pedal and 16 stops stands. It was founded in 1962 by EF Walcker & Cie. built. There is no altar, only an ambo .
