Barbara Müller (Church historian)

Barbara Müller (* 1966 ) is a Swiss Protestant church historian . She is Professor of Church History at the University of Hamburg .

Life

After studying Protestant theology and psychology at the University of Bern , she was in Bern with the work Der Weg des Weinens. The tradition of the "penthos" in the Apophthegmata Patrum 1998 doctorate . She was a research fellow for church history at the University of Zurich from 1997 to 2000. From 2002 to 2003 and from 2004 to 2008 she was a CARTS Fellow of the Faculty of Divinity, University of Cambridge . The Swiss National Science Foundation it promoted two scholarships (1995-1996, 2000-2003). In Rome she stayed from 1995 to 1996 and from 2000 to 2001 at the Pontifical Gregorian University , the Pontifical Oriental Institute , the Pontifical Patristic Institute Augustinianum and the La Sapienza University . She worked at the Department of Religious Studies at the University of Virginia from 2001 to 2002. From 2003 to 2006, she held teaching positions at the Benedictine University of Einsiedeln Abbey and at the University of Zurich. With the work Leadership in Thought and Action of Gregory the Great , she completed her habilitation in 2005 at the Friedrich-Alexander-Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg . Since 2008 she has been a full professor for church history at the University of Hamburg.

Her research for asceticism , spirituality , mysticism , hagiography , for monasticism ( Benedictine monasticism and digital media ) to Gregory the Great , the early Middle Ages and interdisciplinary Church History ( Old Church Reception History of 2 Tim as part of the international research project Novum Testamentum Patristicum ; Tattooed Christians - Christian Tattoos ). She is a member of the Istituto Svizzero di Roma , the Patristic Working Group , Scientific Society for Theology , Meister Eckhart Society and the German University Association .
