The Barroso-class is a class of corvettes in the Brazilian Navy . The class was ordered in 1994 as a follow-up program to the Inhauma class .

history

The type ship Barroso suffered from some difficulties during construction due to economic problems in the country, so that eight years passed between the keel-laying (December 21, 1994) and the launch (December 20, 2002). The commissioning took place in August 2008. The project plans to build a total of six ships of this type by 2018. At the moment, however, no further ship has been laid down.

The hull is 4.20 m longer than the Inhauma class in order to achieve better sea stability and more space for the propulsion system. The design of the ship allows a so-called "container" construction (similar to MEKO ) in order to be able to modernize the equipment of the ship cost-effectively. Furthermore, efforts were made to bring the stealth idea into the ship design.
