Bart van der Putten

Bart van der Putten (born November 28, 1957 in Helmond ) is a Dutch jazz saxophonist and clarinetist.

Van der Putten has played the saxophone since 1979 and was a student of Sean Bergin , Paul Termos and Paul Stocker . Since the early 1980s he has participated in workshops by Arnold Dooyeweerd and Frank Grasso . Since 2000 he has headed the Beroepsvereniging van Improviserende Musici (BIM).

From 1981 to 1984 van der Putten was a member of the ACE group , which was one of the finalists at the 1982 NOS Jazz Festival . Between 1982 and 1984 he performed weekly with the Crea Big Band (later Frank Grasso Big Band ) at the Odeon Theater in Amsterdam with guests such as Toots Thielemans , Hans Dulfer , Mathilde Santing and Johnny Meier .

Between 1984 and 1990 he was part of Wilbert de Joodes Trio Nu , with whom he also made radio recordings. Around 1990 he appeared with Ig Henneman Kwintet , with whom he recorded the album In Grassetto in 1990 . At the same time he toured the Netherlands and Hungary with Jaap Blonk's group Baba-Oemf .

Since 1990 he has been a member of the Bik Band Braam , with whom he a. a. participated in the North Sea Jazz Festival 1999 and recorded several albums. With the trio Blonk / Nijdam / van der Putten he performed in the Netherlands, Belgium and Hungary. In 1989 he founded his own quartet with trombonist Wolter Wierbos , bassist Wilbert de Joode and drummer Theo Bodewes .

Since 2003 van der Putten has also worked with the composer Ricardo Huisman . From 2004 to 2007 he formed a duo for electronic music with Jaap Blonk. He has been leading the Bucket Big Band since 2008 .
