Bartholomäus Khöll (* 1614 ; † February 20, 1664 in Vienna ) was the imperial court stone mason and in 1653 subordinate of the Viennese building works .

Life

Bartholomäus married into a family of stonemasons ; his bride was Christine Ungerin, daughter of Simon Unger, once a stonemason and master builder of St. Stephen's Cathedral . On September 26, 1650 he became a master, and the defects in his masterpiece earned him a fine of 18 Rt. , Which he paid in installments.

In July 1651 he was granted the citizenship of Vienna. No information is available about its origin. His tax contributions for the years 1652–1664 document him as a tenant in the Stubenviertel and an average-income master.

On December 22nd, 1652 the masters at the town hall elected him Unterzechmeister .

His wife Christine died on July 21, 1661 at the age of 29. In her will she bequeathed 150 guilders in cash to her three children, David , Maria and the one year old Michael . One of the will witnesses was Adam Haresleben , currently a cathedral master builder.

Master Bartholomäus Khöll had remarried, he wrote his will on February 19, 1664, the day after he died at the age of 50. The widow married the master stonemason Urban Illmayr , who took over and continued the business in 1665. The three children from his first marriage were orphans become her livelihood by the parental legacy secured.

The main portal of the double tower facade of the Schottenkirche , which emphasizes the center, was built by Bartholomäus Khöll in 1652. According to the plan with half-column framing, entablature and blown segment gable , encompassing a niche . For this niche, the sculptor Tobias Kracker created a statue of Mary with child in 1651.
