Bartholomäus Stosch the Younger
Bartholomäus Stosch (born September 12, 1604 in Strehlen , Silesia , † March 5, 1686 in Berlin ) was a German Reformed theologian and preacher of the Brandenburg electoral court and cathedral to the Great Elector in Berlin.
Life
Stosch came from an old pastor's family and was the son of the rector of the Princely School in Strehlen Bartholomäus Stosch the Elder (1566-1625) and his wife Justina Lange.
At the age of 16 Stosch came to the Schönaichianum grammar school in Beuthen ; one of his most important teachers there was Martin Füsselius the Younger . The grammar school maintained close contact with the Bohemian Brothers , and under this influence Stosch began to study theology at the University of Frankfurt / Oder from 1626 .
During his studies, Stosch lived with the theology professor Conrad Bergius , through whose contacts he was able to work as a tutor for several families between 1629 and 1633 . a. with Albrecht Funcke, whose son Stosch accompanied on his cavalier tour through the Netherlands, France and England from the spring of 1633 .
When Stosch returned to Frankfurt (Oder) in 1640 , Count Dönhoff employed him as a preacher in Pilten ( Kurland ). During a visit to Königsberg, the Elector's mother witnessed some of his sermons and caused Stosch to be appointed court preacher to Berlin at the turn of the year 1643/44 . Stosch held this office until the end of his life. After the death of Johann Bergius in 1659, Stosch also took over his position as senior consistorial councilor.
In 1662/63 Stosch took a leading part in the Berlin Religious Discussion between the Brandenburg Lutherans and the Reformed, initiated by the Great Elector .
With his son Friedrich Wilhelm von Stosch (1648–1704), Kgl. prussia. Go State Secretary u. Go Councilor, the family was ennobled on January 18, 1701.
Stosch died at the age of 81 on March 5, 1686 in Berlin.
