European Basketball Championship 2011 / Division A

The games in Division A took place in August 2010 and August 2011 and served as a qualifying tournament for the 2011 European Basketball Championship in Lithuania . In addition to the ten teams that had already qualified, a further 14 teams qualified for the European Championship. In 2011, Division A comprised 15 European national basketball teams. Among them are 13 teams that qualified directly for the EM in 2009 or had played in Division A and were not relegated there and were not directly qualified for the EM 2011. In Division B 2009 , the Georgian and Macedonian national teams were promoted to Division A.

mode

At the beginning of Division A, it was planned that the three group winners and the two best runners-up qualify for the final round with 16 participants. The last participant should be determined in a second qualifying round. Due to the increased number of participants in the final round, the countries in the table positions one to four as well as the two best-placed teams in the second qualifying round qualify. Thus only one of the 15 teams in FIBA ​​Europe Division A did not take part in the 2011 European Championship.

First qualifying round

The first qualifying round was played in 3 groups (A to C) from August 2 to 29, 2010. The four best teams in each group qualify for the EuroBasket 2011 .
