Bastian Weinig

Bastian Weinig (* 1992 in Schlüchtern ) is a German jazz musician ( double bass )

Weinig received piano lessons at the age of six. At the age of 9 he switched to the electric bass , a little later to the double bass, on which Götz Ommert taught him. He belonged to the big band of the Ulrich-von-Hutten-Gymnasium in his hometown. As a member of the Landesjugendjazzorchester Hessen under the direction of Wolfgang Diefenbach he gave concerts in Greece, Cyprus and South Africa. He also belonged to the Symphonic Wind Orchestra of the Hessen State Youth and gave concerts in 2010 in Hanau with the Wind Philharmonic Rhine-Main under the direction of Jens Weismantel.

In 2011 Weinig moved to Mainz to study, which he completed in 2017 with a bachelor's degree at the University of Music . In 2010, he formed the Moritz Wesp Quartet with Moritz Wesp , Nico Hering and Florian Schwappacher , with which the albums Tauchgang (2012) and The observation (2018) were created. In 2014 he founded his own quartet with Jonas Engel , Nico Hering and Max Jentzen, for which he also composes. In 2016, he released the album Essence ( Double Moon Records ) with the quartet of Kerstin Haberecht . He also played with James Morrison , Hugo Strasser , Axel Schlosser , Sebastian Sternal , Steffen Weber , Lulo Reinhardt , Camerata Risonanza , the Absinto Orkestra , Trio 22 and the Palais Orchester Frankfurt . In the early summer of 2020 he played as a guest in productions by the Frankfurt Radio Jazz Ensemble .

Prizes and awards

In 2008, Weinig received first prize in the big band category at the 2008 German Orchestra Competition with the big band from the Ulrich von Hutten high school. He also received prizes in competitions with the Moritz Wesp Quartet, including the First Prize of the Federal Youth Meeting 2013.
