Bato is a Filipino municipality in the island province of Catanduanes . It has 21,279 inhabitants (August 1, 2015 census) who live in 27 barangays . The community is described as partially urban and belongs to the fifth income bracket of the communities in the Philippines. Bato is located about 372 km southeast of the capital of the Philippines Manila and 8 km east of the provincial capital Virac , on the coast of the Philippine Sea .

Bato has a hilly to mountainous topography in which the nature and water protection area Catanduanes Watershed Forest Reserve with its extensive rainforest stands is located.

The climate of the island of Catanduanes is classified as Type II, with no pronounced dry or rainy season, the heaviest rainfall falls from October to December. The community is located within the Typhon Belt in the Philippines.
