Virac is a Filipino municipality and capital of the island province of Catanduanes . It has 73,650 inhabitants (August 1, 2015 census) who live in 63 barangays . The community is described as partially urban and belongs to the first income bracket of the communities in the Philippines. Virac is located about 365 km southeast of the capital of the Philippines, Manila , on the south coast of the island. The community has a domestic airport that is served by Zest Airways and Cebu Pacific . There are ferry connections to Tabaco City in the province of Albay , 59 km south of Virac.
Virac has a hilly to mountainous topography in which the nature and water protection area Catanduanes Watershed Forest Reserve is located with its extensive rainforest stands.
The climate of Virac is classified as Type II, with no pronounced dry or rainy season. The average annual rainfall is 2,776 mm / m², with the heaviest rainfall from October to December. The community is located within the Typhon Belt in the Philippines.
