Tabaco (officially: City of Tabaco ) is a Filipino city in Albay Province . The part of Tabaco City that lies on Luzon borders on Malinao in the north, Polangui and Oas in the west, Ligao City in the southwest, the Mayon volcano in the south, Malilipot in the southeast, and the Gulf of Lagonoy in the east. The island of San Miguel belongs to Tabaco City , it is the northwesternmost of the four main islands of the province of Albay in the Gulf of Lagonoy and is located east of the city. Two of the city's barangays are located on Cagraray Island . The Mayon volcano towers over the city in the south.

economy

Tabaco used to be the economic capital of the Albay Province. The economy is still heavily dependent on agriculture. The most important crops are rice , corn , root vegetables , vegetables, coconuts and abacá . Poultry and pig rearing as well as fishing are the most important branches of industry. From the natural harbor of Tabaco, ferries serve the island barangays on San Miguel Island and there is a ferry connection to the province of Catanduanes .

From downtown Tabaco you can drive up the northern slope of the Mayon volcano up to about 800 m above sea level . The city recently launched the annual so-called tobacco festival to commemorate the city elevation on March 24, 2001. The Mayon Volcano National Park was established in 2000 to protect nature around the volcano . The Mayon Planetarium and Science Park was built on the slopes of the Mayon at about 800 meters above sea level.
