Battalgazi (until 1988 Eskimalatya ) is a town and capital of the district of the same name in the Turkish province of Malatya . Battalgazi County is located in the east of the province and borders with Elazığ Province . 16,792 people live in the city of Battalgazi and 29,509 people in the entire district (as of 2008).
Battalgazi is the second Malatya. The originally Hethic Malatya ( Melid ) was burned down in ancient times. Later, on the site of today's Battalgazi Malatya was re-established.
