The series 225 of the Deutsche Bahn is a four-axle diesel locomotive series . The locomotives belong to DB Cargo Deutschland (formerly DB Schenker Rail , before that Railion , formerly DB Cargo ) and are used in freight transport.
history
The locomotives of this series were created from 2001 by redesigning or converting 68 locomotives of the 215 series . Another six vehicles were redesignated in 2003 and 2005 from the pre- series of the 218 series to the 225.8 series.
In some of the earlier of DB Regio in passenger locomotives in the series 215 was expanded steam heating with the sale, as these for freight trains was no longer needed. Instead, a preheating and holding device for the machine system was installed. A large part of the redrawn locomotives initially retained steam heating, but some of them were rebuilt later, often in connection with general inspections . In addition, the locomotives have a double traction control , which enables double traction with locomotives of the 217 and 218 series . Pairs of one locomotive each from the 217 and 225 series were common around Mühldorf, for example.
The locomotives with the serial numbers 023 to 029 have a special technical feature - also even before they were renamed as the 225 series - for use in Belgium for the Crocodile train control system that is common there .
The locomotives with the serial numbers 030 to 032 occupy a further special position, which already received an electric train heater before the redesignation, which they still have today (technical information on this in the article on the 215 series ).
In addition, locomotives 225 001–004 and 225 802–811 differ from the others in that they are not suitable for steep sections due to the lack of hydrodynamic brakes . In addition, the locomotives mentioned are only approved for 130 km / h.
2011 225 008 received at the Bremen plant a new MTU - twelve-cylinder engine . It fulfills the EU emissions level IIIB . Various measures, such as three turbochargers and a cooled exhaust gas recirculation system , significantly reduce nitrogen oxide emissions. In addition, a reduced particle filter the particulate emissions by 90 percent. The cooling system and the transmission have also been adapted.
Current
In August 2015, 18 machines were still in active service, 27 more locomotives were z-placed and 29 locomotives had already been decommissioned. Of the 18 active machines, 7 are used by DB (4 of which are formerly pre-series 218s designated as 225.8) and 11 by other owners. The central day accounting for the Series 225 is now in Leipzig, the DB locomotives are currently used only by the railway depots Osnabrück and Saarbrücken and Ulm. The non-DB machines are distributed over:

In spring 2015, the 225 010 was handed over to DB Bahnbau and painted yellow.
In spring 2017, the AIXrail company from Aachen acquired the 225 073 from DB and is using it in construction and freight train services.
future
In March 2010, Deutsche Bahn put out a framework contract for 200 new mainline diesel locomotives. In the long term, it is intended to replace the existing class 215 to 225 locomotives of the V 160 family. The successor is the 245 series .
