Bauta is a city and a municipality in the Cuban province of Artemisa . Until 2010 the municipality was part of the dissolved province of La Habana .

The city is located southwest of Havana and northeast of Alquízar . The settlement was officially established in 1879.

The municipality has 45,509 inhabitants on an area of ​​157 km², which corresponds to a population density of 289.9 inhabitants per square kilometer. The area is dominated by agriculture, sugar cane, pineapple and tobacco are grown.

The municipality is divided into eight districts ( barrio ): Anafe, Baracoa , Bauta, Cangrejeras, Félix E. Alpízar, General Antonio Maceo, Guatao and Punta Brava.
