Artemisa is a Cuban province that emerged on January 1, 2011 from the split of the Havana Land Province . In addition to the municipalities (districts) of the western part of this province, Artemisa got three municipalities from the province of Pinar del Río . The capital is the city of the same name Artemisa .

Artemisa is located in western Cuba. To the west of the province is Pinar del Río, in the northeast it borders on the capital Havana and in the southeast on the province of Mayabeque, which was also founded in 2011 . The northern limit is the Florida Strait and the southern limit is the Gulf of Batabanó .

The province has an area of ​​4004.27 km² and is home to 502,392 inhabitants, which corresponds to a density of 125.5 inhabitants per square kilometer. Artemisa is therefore a relatively small province, both in terms of area and population. However, the population density is the third highest in the country after Havana and Santiago de Cuba .

The province of Artemisa consists of 11 municipalities, which roughly correspond to the German counties . The Municipios Bahía Honda , Candelaria and San Cristóbal belonged to the province of Pinar del Río until 2010, the other eight to the split province of La Habana (Havana country).
