In the B IX Ostbahn series , the Royal Bavarian State Railroad combined express locomotives of the Bavarian Eastern Railway , which were nationalized in 1875. The Ostbahn procured 24 machines as single-coupled locomotives A 1 to A 24 and later converted them to locomotives with the 1B wheel arrangement. Another nineteen locomotives had already been built ex works as 1B locomotives with the numbers B 91 to B 109 .

Crampton type

In 1857/58 the Ostbahn purchased the Crampton type express locomotives A 1 to A12 from Maffei with the 2A wheel arrangement (two running axles mounted in the main frame and a rear driving axle). They had an outer frame with an external engine and controls. Because of the steep routes, they had the smallest wheel diameter of all Crampton locomotives in Germany at 1,828 mm.

Between 1869 and 1871, all vehicles were rebuilt in Regensburg and got the wheel arrangement 1 B. They were given the numbers B 79 to B 90 and later on the State Railways 1081 to 1092.

Stephenson type

The second series of these locomotives with the numbers A 13 to A 24 were of the Stephenson design. In the dimensions of the boiler and the engine, they did not differ much from the machines of the first series.

These vehicles were also converted into vehicles with the axle formula 1B in Regensburg between 1870 and 1871. In addition, the boiler overpressure was increased from 6 to 10 bar. Their new numbers were B 67 to B 78 and for the state railways 1069 to 1080.

tender

Both series were equipped with type 3 T 7 tenders .

Locomotives delivered as 1B

Another 19 locomotives with the 1B wheel arrangement had already been purchased from the Ostbahn. It was about the series

  • B 91 to B96 from 1872 with a driving wheel diameter of 1828 mm, at the state railway number 1093 to 1098 and
  • B 97 to B 109 from 1975 with 1696 mm drive wheels, on the state railway number 1099 to 1111.
