The D I of the Royal Bavarian State Railroad was a shunting tank locomotive with two coupled axles .

The D I was purchased in three series of six, five and four vehicles each between 1871 and 1875. The design of these locomotives was intended to be simple and robust. The frame was designed as a double frame, in the front part of which water tanks were hung between the frame cheeks. Since the existing water supply of 1.74 m³ turned out to be too small even for a shunting locomotive that only operated in the station area, additional lateral water boxes were installed on some locomotives in the 1880s. The external Stephenson control moved the upper slide of the horizontal cylinders . The locomotives could be braked by an external throw lever brake.

The D I provided shunting service at small and medium-sized stations, e.g. B. in Schwandorf, Straubing or Neumarkt id Oberpfalz. 13 locomotives were still available when the Bavarian State Railways transferred to the Reich. The Deutsche Reichsbahn provided road numbers 88 7011–7017 for seven, but the machines were decommissioned before they were re-designated.
