The D 12 and D 13 of the Bayerische Ostbahn were small 2/2 coupled branch line tender locomotives . After the nationalization of the Eastern Railway, they were given the generic designation D II by the Bavarian State Railway and were assigned to the State Railway's D II I local railway locomotives .
The two machines with the names Deggendorf and Bayr. Wald were built by Maffei in 1866 for the Deggendorf-Plattlinger Railway and were only given the numbers D 13 and D 14 after the Ostbahn took over operations in 1872.
The locomotives had an inner filling frame. The water tank was located between the frame cheeks. The boiler was domeless, the regulator was located in the smoke chamber. The bronze slides were moved by an external Stephenson control using an inclined slide pushrod. When delivered, the driver's cab was protected by a front wall and a roof, which were later supplemented by side and rear walls to form a complete driver's cab.
When the Plattling-Deggendorfer Bahn was closed when the Plattling-Deggendorf-Eisenstein line opened in 1877, the two machines were put to a different use. The Deggendorf provided the shuttle service on the short Geiselhöring – Sünching link, the Bayr. Forests were used on the Miltenberg – Amorbach route. Both locomotives were retired in 1895.
