Bavarian Research Institute for Digital Transformation
The Bavarian Research Institute for Digital Transformation (bidt) is an institute of the Bavarian Academy of Sciences founded in 2018 . It helps to better understand the developments and challenges of digital transformation. It thus provides the basis for shaping the digital future of society in a responsible manner that is oriented towards the common good.
The Munich Center for Internet Research (MCIR) , which has been part of the academy since 2016, has been integrated into bidt. The opening event of bidt with the topic "Using data, protecting data - challenges for Europe" took place on July 17th and 18th, 2019 in the Bavarian Academy of Sciences in Munich.
Goals and Organization
The Bavarian State Government decided to found the bidt in June 2018 in order to develop a "sound understanding of the digital transformation, on the basis of which existing strengths of Bavaria, Germany and Europe in the digital world can be expanded and redeveloped."
The main activities of bidt are:
- Research : internationally outstanding interdisciplinary research in the fields of politics and society , economy and work, media and public communication; In consortium projects, researchers from various locations, universities and institutions across Bavaria work together on socially relevant issues.
- Think tank : ensures decision-makers in politics, business and society have access to the findings of the digital transformation and develops recommendations for implementation; creates indicators and analyzes, provides ongoing information on current developments and trends, publishes expert reports and reports ( e.g. annual report on the Internet and Society in Germany).
- Dialog : is the interface between research, politics, business and society; makes scientific findings available to the public; through constant exchange with the general public, questions from the center of society are fed back to research.
