Beatrice Afflerbach

Beatrice "Bea" Afflerbach-Hefti (born June 14, 1920 in Basel , Switzerland ; † March 3, 2003 in Binningen ) was a Swiss graphic designer .

Life

Beatrice Afflerbach-Hefti studied at the Kunstgewerbeschule Basel with Walter Bodmer , Theo Eble and Julia Ris, among others , and was the first woman to graduate with a graphic design diploma in 1941. After completing her studies, she founded an office in 1942 with Sita Jucker and her future husband Ferdinand "Ferdi" Afflerbach, in which commercially successful commercial graphics were created.

Afflerbach-Hefti was involved in the women's rights movement. In 1957 she was one of the founding members of the Soroptimist International Club Basel, a club of working women that supports charitable projects around the world. She designed posters for women’s suffrage and took part in the Swiss Exhibition for Women’s Labor in 1958 .

Beatrice Afflerbach-Hefti was a member of the board of the Kunstverein Binningen from 1972 to 1986.

The couple's estate is in the poster collection of the Basel School of Design .
