Regina Wecker Mötteli (born April 21, 1944 in Berlin ; resident in Trogen ) is a German - Swiss historian .

Life

Wecker attended schools in Berlin-Tegelort and Berlin-Tegel and graduated with a high school diploma in modern languages . From 1963 to 1969 she studied history , English , Jewish and journalism at the Free University of Berlin . From 1969 to 1975 she studied history, English and philosophy / pedagogy at the University of Basel , where she also received her doctorate in 1975. It was there that she received her habilitation in 1992 for modern general and Swiss history and in 1993 she was appointed assistant professor for women's and gender history . In 1997, her assistant professorship was transformed into an associate professorship for women's and gender history. In 1998 she received the Science Prize of the City of Basel. She retired at the end of August 2009 .

Regina Wecker is significantly involved in anchoring gender history and in building gender research in Switzerland. Her research and teaching focuses on the history of wage labor, legal history and the history of civil rights and nationality. Her recent research deals with the history of eugenics (racial hygiene) and biopolitics . From 2004 to the end of 2013 she was President of the Swiss History Society (SGG). She is a member of the board of the Swiss Social Archives and the Swiss Society for Gender Studies (SGGF).

From 1980 to 1996 she was the residents' councilor of her municipality in Reinach . From 1980 to 1986 she was a member of the Constitutional Council of the Canton of Basel-Landschaft .

Wecker is married and has two children.
