action

In a small Scottish town in the summer of 1994. The extroverted Spanner and the reserved Johnno are best friends. They grew up together in a housing project not far from Edinburgh . Johnno's parents, his mother Alison and his stepfather, who works as a police officer, disapprove of Spanner, who comes from a rather inglorious family, and hope that by moving to the safer suburban environment, they can remove Johnno's influence. Spanner's life prospects are not that good because he is under the tutelage of his criminal older brother Fido. The two boys are planning a last weekend together at an illegal rave organized by the pirate radio DJ "D-Man".

production

Staff and cast

Directed by Brian Welsh , who together with Kieran Hurley also adapted his play. This takes up a number of government legislations that were introduced by the Tories in 1994 , such as the Criminal Justice and Public Order Bill (also the Criminal Justice and Public Order Act ). The law turned against Britain's burgeoning rave scene and resulted in a ban on music events that are "characterized entirely or predominantly by the playback of repetitive beats ". The techno fans Johnno and Spanner feel oppressed by this.

Lorn Macdonald plays Spanner, Cristian Ortega his rather reserved friend Johnno. Laura Fraser took on the role of Johnno's mother Alison, Brian Ferguson that of his stepfather Robert. Neil Leiper plays Spanner's older brother Fido. Martin Donaghy , Ryan Fletcher , Rachel Jackson and Ross Mann can also be seen in other roles .
